Khata is a legal document used to compute and file property taxes in Karnataka. It contains all the property details, such as owner details, property size, location, carpet area, built-up area, tax assessment, and property identification number. Gram Panchayat is responsible for establishing, transferring, and paying taxes on Khata.

The importance of obtaining a Khata certificate cannot be overstated, as it serves as proof of the rightful ownership of a property and facilitates its registration with the local government. In addition, it simplifies future transactions involving the property, such as buying or selling.
